SUSTAINABILITY

BoatLife Fishing Championship Charter and Pledge 2024

We’re proud to announce our commitment to sustainability. Our charter ensures that all participants engage in responsible fishing practices, safeguarding our marine ecosystems for generations to come.

While the fishing charter is mandatory for all teams, we also invite you to take the pledge. A voluntary commitment to furthering sustainability efforts. Each pledge fulfilled not only contributes to the health of our oceans but also earns your team valuable points towards our sustainability trophy.

Throughout the competition, certificates will be presented at three stages to recognise your dedication to sustainability. The team who scores the most points will be honoured with a trophy at our event in Guernsey this November.

Waves of Change: BoatLife's Fishing Championship Tackles Sustainability Head-On

Welcome aboard the BoatLife Fishing Championship, where the thrill of the catch meets the call of conservation. In its third year, this renowned UK boating exhibition takes to the waters with a mission: to champion sustainability in sea fishing.

From professional teams vying for the prestigious Pro-Team Cup, sponsored by industry giants committed to marine conservation, to privateers casting off for the coveted Privateer Cup, open to all passionate anglers, this championship is more than just a competition – it’s a platform for change.

At BoatLife, we’re casting a spotlight on sustainable fishing practices, promoting best practices that ensure the health of our oceans for generations to come. Through partnerships with leading brands, BoatLife is leading the way towards a brighter, more sustainable future for sea fishing.

Join us as we reel in sustainability, one catch at a time. Together, let’s make waves for marine welfare and ensure that our oceans thrive for years to come.

Sustainable Fishing

Sustainable fishing is more than just a practice – it’s a commitment to preserving our marine ecosystems and ensuring the long-term viability of fish populations. Through educational workshops, seminars and online resources, we educate participants about the principles of sustainable fishing, including catch and release techniques and responsible gear use.

Best Practices

We believe in promoting best practices that minimise environmental impact and promote ethical angling. From proper handling and release methods to gear maintenance and disposal, we provide guidance on how anglers can reduce their footprint and contribute to the conservation of marine habitats.

Marine Conservation

Our championship events serve as platforms for advocating for marine conservation and habitat protection. We collaborate with conservation organisations to raise awareness about the importance of preserving marine ecosystems and the threats they face, such as habitat degradation, pollution and overfishing.

Science and Research

Science is at the heart of effective conservation and management strategies. We support scientific studies and data collection efforts aimed at improving our understanding of marine ecosystems and informing evidence-based decision-making.

Tagging

Tagging programs play a crucial role in monitoring fish populations and tracking migration patterns. We actively engage with participants raising awareness of tagging programs.

Protected Areas

Marine protected areas (MPAs) are essential for safeguarding critical habitats and biodiversity hotspots. We raise awareness about their importance and promote community involvement in their conservation.

Biodiversity and Recovery

Preserving biodiversity and supporting the recovery of threatened species are central to our efforts. Through educational campaigns we work to raise awareness of vulnerable species populations.

Fish Welfare

We prioritise the well-being of fish and use practices that minimise stress and harm during capture, handling and release. Through education and training, we promote humane methods and encourage anglers to prioritise fish welfare in their angling pursuits.

Get involved and promote your campaigns

Whether its directly engaging with the communities at each location, or by using the Championship as a platform throughout the year, let us know what you or your business are doing to help in these areas and we will help you to get the message out.

Some examples are the Suzuki micro plastic collection filters, OceanR’s clean-up projects & Washdowns biotechnology that all help towards marine conservation and cleaning our oceans.

Join us in our mission to promote sustainable fishing, marine conservation and responsible angling practices. Together, we can make a positive impact on our oceans and ensure their health and vitality for future generations.
